Microsoft has a great Outlook PST backup tool. It’s main function is to backup your Outlook.pst file, which is your entire Outlook profile; Calendar, Emails, Contacts, Journals, everything. If you want to use Windows Mail instead of Outlook you can import the messages directly into Windows Mail without any 3rd party utilities. I haven’t tried this without outlook installed but I don’t think it will work since the import process asks for your MAPI profile.
